Frankfurt impress, snow cancels other game

Frankfurt's players celebrate teammate Frankfurt's Serbian midfielder Filip Kostic (2R) after he scored the 1-0 goal during the German first division Bundesliga football match between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt in Sinsheim, on February 7, 2021.

A superb display from winger Filip Kostic, in which he scored one goal and set up two more, has earned Eintracht Frankfurt a 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim and fourth place in the Bundesliga.

Serbia's Kostic fired in the first half and his crosses converted by Evan Ndicka and Andre Silva secured the points on Sunday.

Frankfurt are now unbeaten in their past nine games and have taken 19 points from 21 available this calendar year to occupy the last of the Bundesliga's Champions League spots.

They are a point ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and two points behind third-placed Wolfsburg.

Sunday's later game between Arminia Bielefeld and Werder Bremen was postponed due to heavy snowfall and temperatures hovering around -6C.

Weather was not a problem for Frankfurt who controlled the opening 45 minutes but had only Kostic's 15th drive from a tight-angle to show for their dominance.

And they were punished when Bebou found space to level just 80 seconds after being introduced as a half-time substitute.

But Kostic stepped up with two assists in 60 seconds as Ndicka headed home his 63rd minute free-kick and Silva immediately headed in his cross at the back post to seal the points.

Hoffenheim are 12th, five points above the relegation play-off place currently occupied by Bielefeld.

Leaders Bayern Munich won 1-0 at Hertha Berlin on Friday to maintain a seven-point advantage to second-placed RB Leipzig, who cruised 3-0 at Schalke on Saturday.
