Arsenal will reportedly have to shell out a transfer fee of €25 million to sign German midfielder Julian Brandt from Borussia Dortmund this month.
As per a report from football.london, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have slapped a €25 million valuation on midfielder Julian Brandt, who is a January transfer target for Premier League heavyweights Arsenal.
Having come through the youth ranks at Wolfsburg, Brandt burst to fame during his time at Bayer Leverkusen where he spent five years before joining Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019. The versatile attacking midfielder enjoyed a promising debut campaign with the Black and Yellows, finishing with 7 goals and 13 assists in 42 games.
However, the 24-year-old has struggled to replicate the same kind of form this time out and, as a result, has lost his place in the starting XI. Indeed, in 22 appearances across all competitions, Brandt has managed a return of just one goal and one assist in 2020/21.
With him not being a regular in the side anymore, it is claimed that Brandt is open to a transfer away from Dortmund this month, while the club also seems open to sanction a sale, should their valuation of €25 million be met by any interested party.
Arsenal are said to be keen on signing the 35-time capped German international in the ongoing January transfer window. Having frozen Mesut Ozil out of the first-team picture at the Emirates, manager Mikel Arteta has had to struggle with the lack of a creative presence in the final third, which has impacted his team’s goal output.
Things have looked better in the past few matches, with Emile Smith Rowe stepping up and helping them to three wins on the trot. However, if the Gunners are to push for a top six finish and success in the cup competitions, bringing in another proven, experienced playmaker would serve them well heading into the second half of the campaign.
While Arsenal have reportedly cooled off their interest in Real Madrid star Isco, Brandt does represent a more realistic option for them. The 24-year-old can play anywhere in the final third and operate in a more withdrawn role in midfield as well, which would boost Arteta’s squad dynamics a great deal.
Given his age Andrea the experience he has already accrued at the top level, a transfer fee of €25 million seems quite reasonable as well. It now remains to be seen if the Gunners push ahead to snap up the 24-year-old or decide to look elsewhere.
