Real Madrid to face Athletic Bilbao in Spanish Supercup Semifinal

Karim Benzema of Real Madrid celebrates with Daniel Carvajal after scoring his sides second goal during the La Liga Santander match between Real Madrid and Athletic Club at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on December 15, 2020 in Madrid, Spain.

The Spanish Football Federation drew the two Semifinals for the 2020-2021 edition of the Spanish Supercup and Real Madrid will face Athletic Bilbao, with Barcelona and Real Sociedad playing for the remaining spot in the Final.

The match between Real Madrid and Athletic will be played on January 14th in Malaga.

Athletic proved to be a tough team to beat when Madrid faced them just two days ago. While they were down to 10 men after just 13 minutes, Los Blancos didn’t have an easy game and they should expect more of the same in this Semifinal.

This will be a single-elimination game after the Spanish Football Federation decided to implement this Final Four format for the Supercup.

Los Blancos will be defending the title they conquered a year ago when they beat Atletico de Madrid in the Final played in Saudi Arabia. It will be interesting to see if Zidane decides to rotate his squad for the first Semifinal or if he goes after the title with every starter he has at his disposal.
