Newcastle United are looking to move on from Fabian Schar as they reveal his transfer fee to interested parties.
Newcastle United have been a busy club as of late in terms of conducting transfer business. It would have been great to see this urgency early in the transfer window, but at least the ball is rolling now.
The Magpies are on the verge of sealing the deal for free agent winger Ryan Fraser, who was on Tyneside yesterday speaking to Steve Bruce and visiting the training facility.
Reports out of Italy claim that Newcastle United are nearing a deal for Brazilian left-back Rogerio, who currently plays his football for Sassuolo.
A deal for Callum Wilson is also on the cards, but it remains to be seen if a different approach is needed due to Matt Ritchie demanding the same weekly salary he receives at Newcastle United.
Another potential deal that could happen involves Arsenal defender Rob Holding, who is expected to join Newcastle United as a loanee.
The catch with that deal is that Newcastle United are hoping to get Fabian Schar and Florian Lejeune off their wage book. The duo has been transfer listed, but the price tag Newcastle United have placed on Schar is quite low.
According to a local report, the front office at St. James’ Park will be content with an offer around £11m for the Swiss international.
Schar joined the Magpies in 2018 for a bargain price of £3m that was set as part of his relegation clause from Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna.
Schar experienced a major dip in form last season, but he was a standout player for Newcastle United during the 2018-19 season with his confrontational defending and ability to score a handful of goals. In total, the central defender has six goals to his name in 43 Premier League appearances.
Most fans will agree with my assessment that Schar’s true value is closer to £20m, but based on the club’s current circumstances, the £11m price tag is simply a quick way to attract more suitors. At the end of the day, the club will still end up making money with that price tag.
