Kylian Mbappe has Man Utd interest as PSG megastar eyes 2021 transfer

Kylian Mbappe of France celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the UEFA Nations League group stage match between Sweden and France at Friends Arena on September 05, 2020 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Kylian Mbappe is interested in Manchester United as one of his four potential options if he is able to force a move away from Paris Saint-Germain next summer, according to transfer expert Duncan Castles.

Mbappe has apparently told PSG he wants to leave in a year’s time, and wants to move to either La Liga or the Premier League.

Mbappe is set to be a hot property in next summer’s transfer window, and will have no shortage of suitors.

The Frenchman has emerged as one of the best players in the world during his time at the Parc des Princes, but it seems he has decided it’s time for change.

He still has two years to run on his current deal, but has told PSG he wants to be sold in a year’s time.

Real Madrid are believed to be the frontrunners to sign him, and it has been reported in Spain that they have already put money aside to make the deal happen as soon as he becomes available.

They are also set to make a move for his international team-mate Eduardo Camavinga, and have been linked with Erling Braut Haaland.

United and Liverpool are also said to be interested, with both clubs monitoring his situation.

And Castles reported on the Transfer Window Podcast that the prospect of signing Mbappe would be of huge interest to United’s owners, The Glazers, as well as vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

However, he also explained that United would have to do something to prove they can still be a more dominant force in Europe before they could attract the forward.

Mbappe has been vocal in the past about how much he admires Liverpool – and Jurgen Klopp in particular – and it has been reported that they would be his preferred destination should Madrid’s interest dry up.

“I’m told he has a couple of clubs in each country that he’s particularly interested in moving to,” Castles said.

“In La Liga, it’s obviously Real Madrid, who have been lining up a deal for him for some time, they’ve been saving money in this year’s transfer market with the view of signing him next summer – or Barcelona. They’re the two clubs he likes there.

“There is also a strong interest in the Premier League, and the clubs I’m told he likes there are Liverpool – which isn’t a surprise as we’ve heard him talk about how much he likes Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp as a manager – he'll be aware they have three strikers turning 29 on very large contracts who are essential to the way they play, but Liverpool are willing to sell if they get the right price.

“With Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, they don’t want to lose them, but they’re pragmatic and know there’s great interest and could obtain substantial
transfer fees for them.

“They’ve basically said if you plan to leave, let us know. You could see an opportunity where one of those three wants to leave – particularly Mane or Salah would raise the biggest transfer fees – and replace them with Mbappe, because his transfer fee wouldn’t be as high as there’s only a year left on his current contract.

“The other club he’s interested in is Manchester United, which I’m sure would be a great appeal for The Glazers and Ed Woodward, to go after a player of his quality.

“It’ll be interesting to see if Mbappe’s interest is such that he’d be willing to go to a team where at present they’re well down the European pecking order.

“We’ll see what happens in the coming season with their cultural reboot, where that gets them and if they’re attractive enough for a player of Mbappe’s quality.”
