Everton miss out on £25 million winger as Leicester City snatch him away

Cengiz Under of AS Roma controls the ball during the Pre-Season friendly match between Frosinone Calcio and AS Roma at Stadio Benito Stirpe on September 9, 2020 in Frosinone, Italy.

Everton has missed out on signing AS Roma winger Cengiz Under as the Turk has agreed to join Leicester City.

The summer transfer window for AS Roma winger Cengiz Under has been an exhilarating experience. He knew his future was away from Rome but the destination kept changing with each passing day.

Napoli, Juventus, Everton and Leicester City had been linked to the Turk and in the end it will be the Foxes who will have the last laugh.

Cengiz Under was extremely close to joining Napoli in a deal that would see AS Roma offer cash plus player for Arakdiusz Milik.

The deal was almost agreed in terms of transfer fees and the players involved had also given their ‘OK’. However, Napoli pulled out of the deal at the last moment and now only wanted straight cash for Milik.

This left Cengiz Under back on the transfer list. According to Corriere Dello Sport, Everton tabled a very good offer for the 23 year old.

Toffees are also hunting a left footed winger and Cengiz Under did fit the bill. However, the Merseysiders are set to miss out on the winger with Leicester City winning the race.

According to Transfer Guru Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma and Leicester City have agreed on a deal for Cengiz Under. The Foxes will pay €3 million in loan and will have an obligation to buy next season for €24 million.

Cengiz Under would have been a good fit for Everton, but Leicester City has pipped them to the signing. I am not too sure whether it will be a huge transfer loss considering Everton need more reinforcements in defence than the attack especially, in central defence.

Mason Holgate is out injured for 8-12 weeks.

To add to the misery, Jarrad Branthwaite got injured in the Carabao Cup fixture against Salford City. Due to the recent turn of events, Everton will be forced to change their priority to sign a centre back either on loan or a permanent transfer.

As for Cengiz Under, Leicester City has done a great business and he is a player that will surely fit their style and shape.

Despite missing out on the Turk, the Toffees are still constantly being linked to Wilfried Zaha and Leon Bailey.

Whether any of these players arrive at Goodison before October 5 will remain a question lingering in the mind of every Evertonian.
