David de Gea has backed himself to overcome the doubters, despite the Manchester United goalkeeper facing a potential threat to his position from Dean Henderson next season.
De Gea's longer-term place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side has come under scrutiny after he made a number of high-profile errors.
With De Gea, Sergio Romero and Henderson, who has returned from his loan spell with Sheffield United, to call upon, Solskjaer has admitted he cannot include three leading goalkeepers in his squad next season.
But De Gea, who signed a four-year contract worth £19.5 million (€21.5m) a year last September, says he is not worried about his future. "No, I trust in myself," he said. "I showed my qualities all these years, so I just keep available for the manager."
Henderson has attracted interest from Chelsea and other clubs after two successful years on loan at Bramall Lane, but he is reluctant to be De Gea's understudy next season.
It has created a quandary for Solskjaer, who has backed Henderson to become United and England's No 1, but faces the prospect of having a £375,000-a-week goalkeeper on the bench if he opts to promote the younger man.
Sheffield United had wanted to take Henderson on loan again but, with the 23-year-old set for a hefty pay rise at Old Trafford, his new wages are likely to be beyond them.
In other news, Jose Mourinho is set to strengthen his Tottenham squad by signing Joe Hart on a free transfer from Burnley, where his contract ran down after two seasons.
