Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Graham Potter has confirmed right-back Ezequiel Schelotto will leave at the end of the current season, and has thanked the Argentine for his time at the club.
Albion extended Schelotto’s contract to the end of the season, ahead of the restart, but he has now been given extra time in order to resolve his future, with the club having both Tariq Lamptey and Martin Montoya available to Potter at right-back.
He said, “It was a tough time for Galgo [Schelotto] when I arrived, as he was still recovering from a bad injury, but he worked really hard to get back to full fitness.
“I applaud that dedication to get back fit and also his desire to get back to play his part for us during the second half of the season.
“We have good options in that position, with Tariq Lamptey and Martin Montoya, so we felt it would help Galgo to have some extra time to plan for the future and his next move.
“On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to thank him for his time here, and wish him all the very best for the future.”
Born in Argentina, Schelotto has played the majority of his professional career in Italy, with Atalanta, Parma, Chievo and Inter Milan. He had a spell in Portugal with Lisbon giants Sporting Club, from whom he joined Albion in 2017.
He spent last season on loan with Chievo in Serie A, before returning to the club under Potter last summer as he recovered from a cruciate knee injury; in total he played 33 times for Albion.
