Atalanta beat Bresica 6-2 to go second in Serie A

Mario Pasalic of Atalanta Bergamo celebrates 1-0 during the Italian Serie A match between Atalanta Bergamo v Brescia at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d Italia on July 14, 2020 in Bergamo Italy.

Atalanta thrashed troubled Brescia 6-2 with Mario Pasalic scoring a hat-trick of goal as the hosts jumped up to second in the Italian Serie A.

The Bergamaschi have now scored a whopping 93 goals in 33 league games this season - 25 more than any other team.

They trail leaders Juventus by six points and are two points above third-placed Inter Milan and fourth-placed Lazio - who all have a game in hand.

Brescia remain second-last in the three-team drop zone and appear doomed - nine points adrift of safety.

Pasalic met no telling opposition when he entered Brescia's box to fire the ball into the net after just two minutes.

Ernesto Torregrossa levelled on eight minutes, getting the better of Mattia Caldara to find the far corner past Marco Sportiello.

The hosts, however, displayed their scoring power and struck three times between the 25th and the 30th as Marten de Roon and Ruslan Malinovskyi drilled in clinical drives before Duvan Zapata's diving header.

Pasalic scored twice after the break on 55 and 58 minutes while Nikolas Spalek scored Brescia's second in the 83rd.
