Henrikh Mkhitaryan is hoping to bring down the curtain on his nightmare spell at Arsenal by making his loan move at Roma a permanent one this summer.
The Armenian forward has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League ever since he completed a £26million move to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2016.
The 31-year-old was then used in a swap deal with Alexis Sanchez, that saw him move to the Emirates two years later.
Since then, the winger has failed to impress, having scored just nine goals in 59 appearances for the Gunners which saw him shipped out on loan last summer.
The move to Roma has revitalised Mkhitaryan, where he has helped them push for a place in Europe next season, while injuries have somewhat hampered his season.
Mkhitaryan has still managed to contribute 10 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions, which has left him wanting to stay on and build on his good start in Italy.
“Since the first day I arrived here in Rome, I feel very good in the club, in the city, and of course it would be nice to stay here,' Mkhitaryan told the 'A Day With…' programme sponsored by the Italian embassy in Armenia.
“The main target will be the Champions League, other wins and titles.
“People underestimate Serie A, the Italian league, but it's more than interesting to play here. The league is getting better and better, and last year's transfers speak for themselves.”
Mkhitaryan is determined to make the most of the time he has left at the top of the game – and it is important just exactly where he plays in order to get the best out of him.
He added: “I do not have a lot of time left until the end of my football career, but I'm pretty sure that I'm doing my best to achieve more, because at the end of your football career everyone will remember what you have done for the club, what titles you have won.
“It's very important to leave a positive note by winning a trophy or doing something good for the club.
“I always had a dream to play in the best European leagues and the best European clubs. And I've fulfilled my dream.
'I'm working hard and mixing my talent with hard work. It's not always easy, but sometimes you must make a sacrifice.”
