Sevilla are the second club the Feyenoord hierarchy have confirmed as holding an interest in midfielder Orkun Kokcu, joining Arsenal in the race.
The Daily Mail report quotes from Feyenoord sporting director Frank Arnesen, who claims Sevilla are also following Orkun Kokcu.
“There are no offers,” Arnesen said. “But we are aware of Sevilla’s interest.”
This is a remarkably similar comment to one Feyenoord boss Dick Advocaat made last month. He told a reporter: “It seems that what I read (about Arsenal’s interest) is true. But no one has yet come to Feyenoord.”
According to the Mail, Arsenal are keen to agree a £23m deal for Kokcu early in the summer. Previously, this was because they wanted to get it done before the Euros. Obviously, a lot changed after those initial reports.
With no Euros to inflate Kokcu’s value, there’s no need for Arsenal to rush a deal. However, it’s also clear that the club’s priorities going into the summer won’t be the same. They’ll have new targets based on their changing financial situation.
Kokcu is up to 35 appearances for the season, scoring three goals and assisting six so far. Five of those goal contributions came in his final seven league games before the shutdown, so he was in good form.
Unfortunately, the Eredivisie is off for good, so that’s the end of his campaign. Whether the 19-year-old has done enough to convince Arsenal to push to sign him for tens of millions of pounds is up for debate.
