Report: Barcelona eye Liverpool target Diego Carlos

Diego Carlos of Sevilla FC controls the ball during the Liga match between Club Atletico de Madrid and Sevilla FC at Wanda Metropolitano on March 7, 2020 in Madrid, Spain.

Barcelona have reportedly turned their attentions to Sevilla defender Diego Carlos as they continue to search for a new centre-back.

According to Sport, Barca have been planning a move for Carlos for a little while now after he enjoyed a strong La Liga campaign in 2019-20 before the competition was suspended.

The 27-year-old has a buyout clause of €75 million which is too high for Barca, given the attacking signings they are planning, but they are confident they can negotiate.

One factor that might help swing a deal is Ivan Rakitic. The midfielder is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou but would be happy to return to Sevilla.

Barca did want €20m for the Croatia international, a fee Sevilla are unlikely to meet, but it’s possible the club could strike a deal involving the two players.

Yet Sport reckon there might be one more problem. Liverpool are also said to be keen on the centre-back and want to sign him to play alongside Virgil van Dijk.

The report reckons the Reds might even be in a position to pay his buyout clause and bring him to Anfield.
