Timo Werner has turned down the chance to sign for Bayern Munich this summer, as he wants to join Liverpool instead due to Jurgen Klopp. That's according to a report in German outlet BILD, claiming Bayern will now turn all their attentions towards Leroy Sane.
Werner has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool all season.
The young striker has a release clause of £51million, and the Reds are set to trigger that fee.
However, a host of other teams were also interested, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
Bayern were reportedly ready to make a move for him ahead of the window, but have now pulled out of the race.
Instead, they have decided to target Sane, who is expected to leave Manchester City for the Bundesliga giants this summer.
Werner, on the other hand, is still set to leave RB Leipzig, but has his heart set on playing for Klopp at Anfield, according to reports.
Klopp is believed to be a big fan of the 24-year-old hotshot, who has bagged 21 goals in 25 Bundesliga games this season.
And Werner has now apparently communicated to Bayern officials that he will not join them this summer due to his desire to play for the Premier League leaders.
One stumbling block, however, could be the finances of any permanent deal.
The footballing economy is expected to be heavily damaged by the coronavirus pandemic, and as such, teams are set to pay less in transfer fees.
And European football expert Guillem Balague believes there is little chance of the Reds being able to afford the striker.
He did, however, insist that Liverpool officials believe he would settle at Anfield quickly.
He explained: "What I was told before the pandemic was that Liverpool were monitoring the likes of Timo Werner and he'd adapt to Liverpool very well.
"But he wasn't someone they made an offer. That's where I left it.
"It was the beginning of March when I heard about it and there was no offer.
"I just don't see how this [Werner to Anfield] can happen."
