Bayern Munich yet to make a decision on Ivan Perisic

Bayern Munich's Croatian midfielder Ivan Perisic.

Ivan Perisic’s future at Bayern Munich is still uncertain. The Croatian winger is on loan from Inter Milan, but Bayern has an option to activate a buyout clause in his loan contract for an estimated fee of around €20 million.

Both Perisic and Philippe Coutinho were purchased on loan deals at the end of last summer’s transfer window when the deal for Manchester City’s Leroy Sane temporarily collapsed due to his cruciate ligament injury. While both have buyout options in their contract’s, Perisic’s is significantly cheaper as Coutinho’s would cost Bayern around €80 million.

Per Italian newspaper Gazzetto dello Sport based in Milan (via SemperInter), Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that the club’s front office has not yet discussed in detail whether or not they want to activate Perisic’s buyout clause:

“We haven’t talked about it yet, we have a clause to consider, I believe, until the end of May”.

Perisic was signed by Niko Kovac, but has impressed Flick with his positional versatility, and he’s scored 5 goals and provided 8 assists from a total of 22 appearances before sustaining a broken ankle in February. From Flick’s perspective, Perisic could prove to be a valuable veteran asset to keep around as a squad or bit-part player as long the buyout price is worth it.

Bayern can, of course, try to wriggle that fee down to about €15 million, especially if they were to involve Corentin Tolisso in a potential swap deal. It was reported earlier this month that Inter was potentially interested in Tolisso, and Bayern would not hesitate to let him leave if he wanted to, so Inter could be a potential destination if Tolisso wants regular minutes.
