Steven Gerrard: Rangers manager signs new deal until 2024

Steven Gerrard, Manager of Rangers FC looks on prior to the UEFA Europa League group G match between Rangers FC and BSC Young Boys at Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers Football Club is today delighted to announce manager Steven Gerrard has agreed a two-year extension which will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2024.

Steven, 39, joined Rangers in the summer of 2018 and has driven significant improvement in the Club’s fortunes since then.

The manager guided the Club through four preliminary rounds and into the Europa League group stages last season with what was a new team which went on to gain memorable results against Villarreal and Rapid Vienna in the sectional phase.

That initial success was followed by an unprecedented second consecutive qualification for the group stage this year, where again, the Light Blues came through four tough qualifiers without a single loss.

This time around, Steven oversaw his side going one-better as the team qualified for the last 32 of the competition emerging from a very tough group against Porto, Young Boys and Feyenoord.

Domestically, the Club’s fortunes have also shown progress. In his first season the Club achieved its highest points total since promotion back to the Scottish Premiership. This season Steven’s has helped his side find some superb form in the league, losing only once in the 15 games played so far.

Off the field, his presence has energised the club’s support, who have enjoyed not only the upturn in results, but the high-energy, exciting brand of football.

Steven’s backroom staff, Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw, Colin Stewart, Jordan Milsom, Mark Waller, Scott Mason and Graeme Stevenson have also renewed their contracts at the Club and the manager said: “I’m delighted to be extending my stay at this fantastic football club.

“When Dave King approached me about the possibility of extending my contract with Rangers, it was a very easy decision to make because I’m very happy and feel that we are building something special together at the Club.

“I’d like to thank the Board for the backing they have given me already in my time at the Club and also most importantly, the Rangers fans who have given me and the team such tremendous backing both this season and last.”

Rangers Sporting Director Ross Wilson said: “Since I joined the Club, I have thoroughly enjoyed the working relationship with Steven and the rest of his team. I am pleased that we were able to make swift progress on the contract discussions, which demonstrate how committed to Rangers everyone here is.

“The professionalism, high standards and dedication that Steven and all of the coaching and support staff have given to make this Club successful is evident both on and off the pitch and I look forward to continuing on that path together as we all continue to drive the club forward on all fronts.”

Rangers Chairman Dave King said: “From the moment I met Steven, I could tell that he was the right man to help us to drive this club forward on the pitch. He has an elite mentality and that is exactly what I was looking for.

“He is relentless in his desire to bring success to our Club and we are delighted that he has signed this new contract, which shows his commitment to Rangers.”
