Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman wins france recall

Kingsley Coman has been rewarded for his strong late-season form with Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich by earning a recall for world champions France.

Bayern winger Coman had not featured for his country since November 2017, after which an ankle injury ended his chance of taking part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The 22-year-old has scored seven goals in all competitions since February, however, helping Bayern to become German champions for the seventh year running and to reach this Saturday’s DFB Cup final against RB Leipzig.

As  a result, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus wide man has been included in a 24-man squad for France’s friendly against Bolivia  (2 June) as well as their UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against Turkey and Andorra (8 and 11 June).

Coman missed 17 matches through injury in the first half of 2018/19, but he returned to net an extra-time winner against Hertha Berlin in the last 16 of the DFB Cup at the start of February.

After getting up and running in the cup, he registered six league goals and made four more as Bayern first overhauled and thenheld off Borussia Dortmund in the title race.

Coman’s scoring streak included doubles in wins at Augsburg in February and Düsseldorf in April, while he also got the opening goal on the final day of the season as Bayern sealed the title with a 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Such form has not gone unnoticed by France manager Didier Deschamps, and the fleet-footed attacker from Paris is now in line to win his 16th cap for his country.

Also included is Bayern-bound Benjamin Pavard, whose wonder goal against Argentina in the last 16 helped France on their way to winning last summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Before linking up with Les Bleusand then leaving for Munich this summer, Pavard will try to help Stuttgart preserve their top-flight status by negotiating a two-legged promotion/relegation play-offagainst second-tier Union Berlin.

The first of those games takes place in Stuttgart on Thursday before the Bundesliga side travel to the German capital for Monday’s return match.
