Marco Reus will miss Dortmund next two games against Werder Bremen and Fortuna Dusseldorf after a red card in Saturday 4-2 defeat to Schalke.
Borussia Dortmund captain Reus was sent off following a rash lunge on Suat Serdar, and will serve a two-match ban.
Teammate Marius Wolf, who has been filling in as a makeshift right-back of late, received his marching orders five minutes later for a foul on the same opposition player.
The 23-year-old has been handed a three-game suspension that rules him out for the rest of the season.
Mario Gotze had given Dortmund the lead at the Signal Iduna Park, but goals from Daniel Caligiuri and Salif Sane put Schalke 2-1 ahead at half-time.
Following Reus' sending off, Caligiuri scored from the resultant free-kick before Breel Embolo sealed the the win after Axel Witsel had briefly reduced the arrears.
"It was a clear red card. I was late," Reus told Sport1 after collecting only the second red card of his Bundesliga career and first since 2007/08.
"Anyone who knows me knows that I didn't want to hurt him. I'm sorry to the team."
Reus will be available again for Dortmund's final game of 2018/19, away to former club Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed a sensational campaign for the Black-Yellows, registering 16 goals and eight assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances.
Dortmund trail Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich by two points, but have a vastly inferior goal difference with three rounds of fixtures still to play.
