The spanish goalkeeper Pau Lopez was given an opportunity to have a second spell in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur but he rejected it. Pau made his international debut on 26 December 2015, having a Man of the match performance for Catalonia in a 0–1 friendly loss to the Basque Country. On 28 March 2016, he played his first game with the Spanish under-21 team, in a 1–0 win against Norway at the Estadio Nueva Condomina. The 23 years old did not play a single second of first-team football during his forgettable 2016/17 loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur so perhaps it is no surprise that he has rejected the chance to return to North London, according to report. Pau was on loan at tottenham Hotspurs after impressing as Espanyol’s first-choice shot-stopper in La Liga, but it quickly became apparent that Mauricio Pochettino did not think he was ready to challenge Hugo Lloris, or even Michel Vorm, for a place in the senior squad. Pau Lopez spent the entire season with the reserves despite being highly-rated by the Argentine boss, but Spurs missed the chance to tie him down to a permanent deal. The Guardian stated last summer that Tottenham passed up the chance to sign Lopez for £6 million in January and only offered £2 million a few months later. Espanyol, unsurprisingly, were not keen to let one of Europe’s best young goalkeepers leave for so little. And even though his contract is due to expire this summer, Tottenham have missed the chance to sign Lopez on a permanent basis for a second time.
