Spain's forward #19 Lamine Yamal (L), Spain's forward #25 Fermin Lopez (C-DOWN), Spain's midfielder #17 Nico Williams (C-UP) and Spain's forward #11 Ferran Torres attend the training session of Spain's national football team ahead of the UEFA Euro 2024 football Championship at the team's base camp in Donaueschingen on June 13, 2024.

Ferran Torres has been chatting about his match-winning goal for Spain after opening His Euro 2024 account against Albania.

The Barcelona forward started the game and scored a fine effort to ensure Spain made it three wins out of three in the group stages.

Torres latched onto a pass from Dani Olmo, who is being linked with a return to Barca currently, and said he told him before the game to supply those kinds of passes.

“I asked Dani Olmo before the game to play those balls in behind for me. Once I started running and saw he was going to pass it to me, I didn’t think twice,” he told UEFA.

“It always makes me proud to represent my country. I always try to make the most of the opportunities the manager gives me scoring goals, providing assists, and working hard in defence.

“The most important thing is that we got the win and we’re moving on to the round of 16 having secured nine points out of nine.”

Spain have looked one of the best teams at the tournament so far and will head into the knockout stages with confidence after cruising through a group that also contained Italy and Croatia.

Torres says the team have bonded well and he’s hoping to force his way into Luis de la Fuente’s starting XI.

“We have a route ahead of us and we’re playing phenomenally,” he added.

“We’re a family, very tightly knit. The thing about this team is that everyone is ready to be in the first XI.

“Players coming off the bench are very important as well because lots of goals have been scored at the end of games. I want to make [selection decisions] difficult for the coach.”

Spain play again on Sunday when they will come up against one of the third-placed finishers. Torres may have to settle for a place on the bench again but his record for Spain is outstanding - that’s now 20 goals in 44 caps for La Roja.
