Marcelo Bielsa in talks with Bournemouth of vacant manager job

Leeds United former coach Marcelo Bielsa shouts instructions to his team from the technical area during the Premier League match between Leeds United and Newcastle United at Elland Road on January 22, 2022 in Leeds, United Kingdom.

Bournemouth are interested in former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa and have spoken to him about becoming their new head coach, but current interim Gary O’Neil remains very much in contention to get the job on a permanent basis.

Bournemouth sacked Scott Parker, who had brought them up from the Championship last season, in August and appointed O’Neil as interim.

O’Neil has enjoyed some very good results at the start of his time in charge, but has seen form dip in recent weeks – losing their last four league games.

Bournemouth have also been going through a takeover, with American Bill Foley ready to take charge at the Vitality Stadium as only Premier League approval remaining for the deal to be ratified.

Foley is involved in the decisions at the club already and there was a summit meeting in Las Vegas this week involving Bournemouth’s hierarchy.

The club’s next manager was top of the agenda and Bielsa was discussed, and is an obvious appeal with his reputation following his impressive stint at Leeds.

However, footballflame was told that O’Neil has impressed a lot of people during his time in charge and is very much in contention to get the job on a full-time basis.

As it stands it is believed that O’Neil and Bielsa are the only two candidates being spoken to at this moment in time and the belief is that they will look to make their appointment next week.
