Giovinco joins Juventus’ Academy in Toronto

Sebastian Giovinco of Sampdoria looks on during a training session at Centro Sportivo Gloriano Mugnaini on February 3, 2022 in Bogliasco, Genoa, Italy.

Sebastian Giovinco has joined the Juventus Academy in Toronto and visited his former club at Continassa today.

The 35-year-old is in Turin and met club President Andrea Agnelli at Continassa today.

Juventus have announced that their ex striker has joined the club’s Academy in Toronto.

What is the Juventus academy? The Serie A giants explain it on their official website: “The Juventus Academy project was born to bring Juventus’ colours, methods and values to as many kids as possible. Present in over 50 countries and on every continent, it offers both the teaching and development of football skills and educational training, accompanying young players in their growth, from introduction to the game to maturity, and not exclusively within sport.

“All programs are available, regardless of the level of the participants, and the activities are based on respect for their mental and physical well-being. Fun is at the center of all the proposed activities.”

Giovinco, a product of Juventus academy, made his senior debut with the Bianconeri in May 2007, aged 20, in a Serie B clash against Bologna. He replaced Raffaele Palladino in the second half and delivered an assist for David Trezeguet in a 3-1 win in Turin.

He went on to score 20 goals in 132 competitive appearances with the Old Lady before a move to Toronto FC in January 2015.

He was named MLS’s MVP in 2014-15 when he contributed to Toronto’s title win with 22 goals.

The Italian striker returned to Italy in January, joining Sampdoria on a free transfer, but only played two games at Marassi before leaving the club in June.
