New Leicester City captain Jonny Evans has identified the gameplan Brendan Rodgers has tasked his side with to defeat Saints on Saturday.

The 34-year-old was selected by the Northern Irish boss to replace outgoing goalkeeper and club legend Kasper Schmeichel as the Foxes’ captain.

The former Manchester United man played just 18 Premier League matches last campaign, but those included the 4-1 hammering of Saints on the final day.

Leicester took the lead in controversial circumstances but went on to cruise despite James Ward-Prowse’s consolation penalty.

“We played them at the end of last season and you know with Southampton that you’re always going to get a tough game,” Evans told the club website, ahead of the rematch at King Power Stadium.

“They’ve got a lot of young players with high energy; the manager likes to press and they have a different style to a lot of other teams with their wingers looking to move inside.

“I think it’s important that you stay composed against them around their press and try to beat them that way.”

He continued: “You need to get the ball down on the floor and play around it.

“We know it’s going to be difficult but we had a good result against them last season so hopefully we can carry on and replicate that with another positive result.”
