First-half goals from
Jamal Musiala and Thomas Muller have taken Bayern Munich back to the top of the
Bundesliga, thanks to a routine 2-0 victory over visiting Wolfsburg.
The 19-year-old Musiala
fired home the opener in the 33rd minute on Sunday before the ever-alert Muller
deflected in a second shortly before the interval.

became the first German player under the age of 20 to score 14 Bundesliga goals
Bayern survived a lucky
escape early on when Alphonso Davies turned the ball onto his own post but soon
took control and were denied further goals by the offside flag on three
separate occasions.
Borussia Dortmund had
gone top of the table by winning 3-1 at Freiburg on Friday but Bayern have now
gone back above their rivals, the only other side with a perfect record, on
goal difference early in their bid for an 11th consecutive title.
Wolfsburg, coached by
former Bayern boss Niko Kovac, may wonder how things would have turned out had
Davies' attempted clearance found the net rather than the outside of the post
in just four minutes.
Slowly but surely,
Bayern took control and Sadio Mane was denied a first goal in Munich by the
flag when he turned in from close-range.
The breakthrough was
merely delayed till Musiala took Muller's pass and, though fouled, regained his
footing to score from outside the box.
Muller himself doubled
the advantage in the 43rd minute by turning Joshua Kimmich's shot past the
wrong-footed Koen Casteels.
Muller, in his 417th
Bundesliga game that lifted him to fourth on the all-time Bayern list,
wrongfooted the keeper.
Dayot Upamecano and
Mane had celebrations cut short by marginal, though correct, offside decisions
after the restart and Casteels saved the rest of what was thrown at him to keep
the score respectable.
Elsewhere Mainz and
Union Berlin shared the spoils in a low-key 0-0 draw to each stay unbeaten in
sixth and fifth respectively.
Both started with
opening day wins but largely cancelled each other out in a game of few clear
cut opportunities.
The hosts went closer
to snatching all three points when Lee Jae Sung's long-range chip almost caught
out keeper Frederik Ronnow while late on Marlon Mustapha went on a fine solo
run only to poke wide.
Union threatened only
with half-chances but did enough to merit a point.
