Man Utd and Arsenal both interested in signing Southampton star

Manchester United and Arsenal are both interested in signing Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

The Premier League rivals are already going head-to-head in their bids to sign Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez this summer having both made offers for the Argentina international.

According to The Athletic, both sides also hold an interest in former Tottenham youngster Walker-Peters and have him on their list of targets should they decide to strengthen at right-back.

Walker-Peters joined Southampton on a permanent deal after impressing on loan, making his England debut during an impressive 2021-22 season.

Tottenham are thought to have included a £30milliom buy-back option in the deal that saw the 25-year-old head for the south coast.

Southampton meanwhile are keen t bring in another full-back to compete with Walker-Peters and provide cover for Tino Livramento who is likely to miss the rest of 2022 with a knee injury.

United youngster Brandon Williams is among the options Saints are considering, along with Feyenoord’s Marcus Pedersen and Manchester City prospect Issa Kabore.

The Athletic add the new addition will bolster Ralph Hasenhuttl’s current options and serve as part of the succession plan should Walker-Peters be sold.

United have already added a new left-back to their squad this summer in Tyrell Malacia and are now practising midfield additions with a versatile attacker also high on Erik ten Hag’s wanted list.

The club have been linked with a new right-back however, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future at Old Trafford uncertain.
