Everton have confirmed the signing of James Tarkowski on a free transfer and unveiled the 29-year-old in club colours on Saturday.

Tarkowski joins after five years at Burnley. He left the club after their relegation from the Premier League when his contract expired and impressed in his six years at the north-west club.

Tarkowski said he was 'excited' to join Everton and that it is a 'massive club'. He added that conversations with manager Frank Lampard and his vision for the team were an important factor in his decision to join.

'Speaking to the manager, it was very important to see what he wants from his players and his team, what he saw in me and why he wanted to sign me, Tarkowski told Everton's club website.

'Speaking to (director of football) Kevin Thelwell was also a factor. They both spoke about the ambition here which was really important for me.

'I'm an ambitious person, I want to achieve, I want to win things and I've come here to be successful.'
