“I don’t even have the president of Getafe’s number,” Barnett said to Romano.
Bale’s time with Real Madrid is coming to an end. As a free agent, he will surely be a hot commodity this summer. The Getafe rumour, however, seemed like somewhat of a stretch until Barnett essentially shut it down. Prior to that, however, Getafe’s president Angel Torres’ remarks were quite interesting.
“We spoke to Gareth Bale’s agent just 45 minutes ago, they offered him to us,” Torres said in quotes reported by Romano. “We will consider and study this possibility.”
Bale’s career
is somewhat of an enigma. The player looks world class when healthy, but often
struggled with injury concerns, especially with Los Blancos. For example,
he only appeared in five La Liga matches this season and contributed just one
goal. Last season, however, while on loan with former club Tottenham Hotspur, Bale scored 11 goals and provided two
assists in 20 Premier League appearances. If he can manage to stay healthy, the
quality is still there.
At
32-years-old, Bale is as experienced as players come. Although his playing time
with Real Madrid was erratic, he managed to be a part of several major
trophies, including a bulk of Champions League titles.
Clubs across
Europe will be ready to pounce for his signature. It’s not often that a name as
big as Bale’s is available for free. For now, however, it seems safe to say
that the Getafe talk is nothing but a rumour as the player’s agent was quick to
dismiss it.
