Mir brace gives Huesca vital La Liga win

Rafa Mir of SD Huesca challenges for the ball against Rober Pier of Levante UD during the La Liga Santander match between Levante UD and SD Huesca at Ciutat de Valencia Stadium on April 02, 2021 in Valencia, Spain.

Huesca beat Levante 2-0 to move closer to breaking out of the relegation zone in the Spanish league on Friday.

Rafa Mir scored a goal in each half to end the visitors' four-game winless streak and leave the team in 18th place, just a point from safety.

Huesca, who began the match in last place, enjoyed only 37 per cent of possession in the match and had just six shots at goal as compared to the hosts' 13.

But the two on target that mattered came via the boot of Mir in the 15th and 54th minutes of the match.

Alaves, who face Celta Vigo at home on Sunday, dropped to bottom in the 20-team standings.

Alaves are immediately behind Eibar, who visit third-place Real Madrid on Saturday.

The first team outside the relegation zone is Elche, who host Real Betis on Sunday.

At the top, Atletico Madrid has a four-point lead over Barcelona.

Atletico visit fourth-place Sevilla on Sunday, while Barcelona host Valladolid on Monday.
