Dortmund youngster ruled out for remainder of season

Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund looks on during the Borussia Dortmund Training Session on March 16, 2021 in Dortmund, Germany.

Borussia Dortmund's 16-year-old forward Youssoufa Moukoko will be out of action for the remainder of the 2020-21 season over a ligament injury, the German football club said on Monday.

"Youssoufa Moukoko will be sidelined for the remainder of the season with a ligament injury in his foot," Borussia Dortmund said on Twitter.

German state broadcaster Deutsche Welle said the Cameroonian-born German player was injured in a training session with the German under 21 national team. The teenager was called for national duty in March.

This season Moukoko scored three league goals in 14 games for Dortmund.

Last November, he became the youngest German Bundesliga player in the league's history, making his senior debut for Dortmund against Hertha Berlin.

Moukoko was 16 years and one day old when he played in the Hertha Berlin match. He beat Dortmund veteran Nuri Sahin in this field.

Turkish midfielder Sahin was 16 years and 11 months old when he played against Wolfsburg in August 2005.

Sahin is still an active player. The 32-year-old now plays for Fraport TAV Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
