Luis Suarez scored twice but was still unable to stop La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid from dropping two points as a late goal condemned them to a 2-2 draw at home to Celta Vigo on Monday night.
The result cuts Atletico's lead at the top of the table over FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to eight points, although they still have a game in hand over their nearest rivals
With players such as Joao Felix, Thomas Lemar, and Hector Herrera among five first-team players out due to the coronavirus and Kieran Trippier still suspended by FIFA, Atletico coach Diego Simeone used Marcos Llorente as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation in the first half and saw how they struggled to contain an aggressive Celta side who deservedly took the lead when Santi Mina flicked home Hugo Mallo's first-time cross from the right.
Celta looked the brighter of the two teams but Luis Suarez's striking instinct was again to be vital as he was once again in the right place at the right time to score from close range after Llorente's ball from the right on the stroke of halftime.
