Celtic edge closer to big signing

Celtic are closing in on a big January signing as they aim to bolster their defence for one last title push.  Talks are ongoing to bring Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic back to Celtic Park for a second loan spell.

The big Croatian international has struggled to make the breakthrough at The Foxes this season and found himself shipped out on loan at Cardiff City.  After making only one appearance, Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers, has recalled the stopper as he bids to find a club where the 23 year old can get regular first team football.

Rodgers revealed yesterday that a deal may be completed between the clubs and it looks certain it could be completed in the coming days. The ex-Celtic gaffer revealed, “Celtic would be a great move for him. He’s at the age where he really needs to be playing and that didn’t quite materialise at Cardiff”

Sky Sports have reported that at the end of the short term loan deal, Celtic could have the option to buy the defender but that could depend in whether or not he stays injury free.

Benkovic’ first spell with the Hoops was interrupted by injury as he struggled to overcome an ankle injury.

He still managed to make twenty seven appearances for Celtic across all competitions, scoring two goals, and was a fans favourite in his first stint at Paradise.

This would be a popular signing with the Celtic fans as Benkovic is a good solid central defender and that is something that has been glaringly missing from the side this season.
