France boss Didier Deschamps has detailed how Anthony Martial has improved during his time at Manchester United.

Martial has become a regular for France, having started recent Nations League wins over Portugal and Croatia.

While the 24-year-old has scored 73 goals in 229 games for United, he hasn't yet found his scoring touch for France, having netted just once in his 19 international appearances so far.

But Deschamps is happy with the forward's development at United, who Martial has represented since 2015.

The France coach praised Martial's performance in Saturday's 1-0 victory in Portugal, saying he had developed a winning mentality.

“He lacked in finishing - it seemed a little bit clumsy," Deschamps admitted in an interview with TF1 .

"But sincerely, having watched the moments again, it came down to small margins.

"He is part of the group of players who have not been here for a long period of time, but he has changed during this period, on the pitch and off of it.

"With years, he has also gained maturity. He is much more determined - he already had quality. Things are more concrete.

"I feel a bit unfortunate for him because he was not rewarded with a goal, but he is very promising.”

While he is yet to score in the Premier League this season, Martial has netted twice in the Champions League, and has three assists across both competitions.

He will hope to get off the mark when United host West Brom on Saturday looking to build on their 3-1 win at Everton before the international break and end their home hoodoo.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are yet to win a top-flight game at Old Trafford this season, having lost to Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Arsenal and been held to a draw by Chelsea.

United did beat RB Leipzig at the Theatre of Dreams last month, and will be hopeful of extending the winless Baggies' miserable run of five defeats from their opening eight games.
