Bayern Munich have revealed Joshua Kimmich will be out of action until January after undergoing a 'successful' knee operation.
The 25-year-old midfielder limped out of their 3-2 win at Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday night.
Kimmich, one of the most consistent performers for the European champions, hurt his right knee as he tripped Erling Haaland to stop the Dortmund striker breaking away in the 35th minute.
Germany international Kimmich, who was booked for the foul, was clearly in a lot of pain and had to be helped from the field by two members of staff.
Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said the club would offer him the best support during his recovery.
“We are glad that Joshua will probably be available to us again in a few weeks,” Salihamidzic told the club's official website.
“We will give him the best possible support during his rehab.”
Kimmich had also been named in Germany's squad for the Nations League games at home to Ukraine on November 14 and away to Spain three days later.
So far this season Kimmich has made 11 appearances for Bayern, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.
Marco Reus put Dortmund ahead on Saturday but Bayern then took control of the game, with David Alaba, Robert Lewandowski and Leroy Sane scoring before Haaland got a goal back for the hosts.
Bayern are top of the Bundesliga, two points clear of their closest challengers RB Leipzig.
