Edinson Cavani’s hopes of making his Manchester United debut against Paris Saint-Germain have been dashed after the striker was left out of the squad that flew to France this aternoon.

The 33-year-old had been hoping to make his first appearance for the club against his former employers when United take on the Ligue 1 giants at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday. Cavani was unable to play against Newcastle on Saturday after Covid-19 protocols meant he had to isolate for a fortnight following his arrival at the club.

The Uruguayan reportedly joined United in part because it meant he could face his former club, who he feels treated him poorly towards the end of his nine-year stay in the French capital.

But Cavani will have to wait a bit longer for his debut as he was not seen in the travelling squad that jetted out from Manchester Airport today.

Also absent was Harry Maguire, as the defender is nursing a hamstring strain. The defender started in the 4-1 win against Newcastle despite having a problem with his hamstring and he was seen holding the area at numerous points in the second half.

United will be hoping a period off will see him fit and available again to play against Chelsea on Saturday. Facundo Pellistri will be hoping to make his first appearance for the club after he was named in United’s travelling squad. The 18-year-old was a shock purchase on deadline day, arriving in a £10m deal from Penarol.

Alex Telles will be hoping to feature following his arrival from Porto, while Mason Greenwood is in the squad following his omission on Saturday.
