Tottenham have reportedly started talks with Italian top-flight club Genoa over the sale of left-footed defender Danny Rose.
According to Sky Sports, Spurs have begun discussions with Serie A side Genoa about the 30-year-old.
It is claimed that Italian rivals Cagliari had been chasing a move for the left-back, but they are now considered out of the running.
The report does explain that a deal for the Englishman could be “difficult” for Genoa to complete, but Spurs are open to allow his exit from the club during this summer transfer window.
Genoa are an Italian top-tier club that narrowly avoided relegation from Serie A during the last season, but want to offer Rose a fresh start abroad and if he moves it would be his first spell outside of England.
The full-back was once considered one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and he’s earned 29 senior international caps for his country, but has slipped down the pecking order of national manager Gareth Southgate.
Rose’s Spurs future has been in doubt ever since he was loaned out to Newcastle United back in January and it’s just clear that he doesn’t fit into the plans of Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
With just one year left on his contract it makes sense to try offload Rose this summer, but he’s still got the quality to play in the Premier League if any suitors are available and if he’s got the motivation.
The attack-minded left-back will be remembered as a quality player for the North London club if he has played his last game for them.
