Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring Josh King to the club this summer but the club are yet to give the green light to make a move.
The Red Devils tried to sign the Norway international in January but ended up sealing a loan transfer for former Watford forward Odion Ighalo instead.
King is now expected to leave the Cherries this summer after their relegation to the Championship, and he could be available for £15-20million.
The forward is entering the final year of his deal on the south coast but also wants to remain in the Premier League.
And he is being linked with several clubs, including Aston Villa, but the player’s preference is to rejoin United, the club he played for as a trainee.
King came through the academy system at United after moving to England and has always been open about wanting to return.
And, according to The Athletic , Solskjaer is keen to sign his compatriot to help bolster his forward line next season.
But the report claims that United’s hierarchy have not given a clear indication of whether they want to make an offer or not.
The Norwegian ace recently spoke out about a potential return to Old Trafford after a move in January failed to materialise.
“I will not lie, because I really wanted to go there in January, but what happened, happened,” he said.
“I know why things happened. We’ll just have to wait and see. There is a lot that is open.
“I have a dream to play in the Champions League.
“Whether it will happen this season or in two years, I do not know. But I have a dream about it that all boys have.
“What if United are still interested? That would be amazing. I was at United for five years and I learned lot there.”
King’s agent is also believed to have held talks with Tottenham this summer, while Newcastle and Italian side AC Milan were also monitoring his situation.
