Luis Enrique & Thiago full of praise for Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets

Spain boss Luis Enrique and former Barcelona midfielder have both taken time out to praise Sergio Busquets.

The 32-year-old is currently on international duty and started the 1-1 draw with Germany on Thursday.

There have been suggestions Busquets may not be a guaranteed starter under Ronald Koeman at Barcelona next season, but Thiago think he remains one of the very best.

“He’s a reference point, not just in the last few years in which we’ve had a great relationship, but also in football he is huge. From Sergio Busquets you learn how to position yourself, as a leader of the team it’s amazing to watch him train and play.

“We all have games that aren’t so good, but you only have to see him on the pitch, the stats, he has the highest numbers in midfield in the world. Midfielders, to keep evolving, we have to look at Sergio Busquets.”

Enrique also offered his thoughts on the midfielder and his importance to the national team.

“Busi is a player who does not need to speak much because his presence imposes respect,” he said.

But he is not here for what he contributes off the field, he is here for what he contributes on the pitch.

“He makes better or worse games, but he is one of the most important footballers of the national team.”

Spain are back in Nations League action again on Sunday when they take on Ukraine in Madrid.
