Chelsea star Olivier Giroud breaks silence over Juventus transfer speculation

Olivier Giroud of Chelsea speaks with Mason Mount of Chelsea during the FA Cup Final match between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on August 01, 2020 in London, England.

Olivier Giroud claims he was left surprised at reports of him being linked with a move to Juventus and insists he is happy at Chelsea.

The Frenchman is believed to be wanted by new Juve boss Andrea Pirlo, who is looking to add another forward to his squad after allowing Gonzalo Higuain to leave.

Giroud ended last season in impressive form for the Blues, with Frank Lampard often using him instead of Tammy Abraham up top.

But the arrival of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig could leave the World Cup winner further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge next season.

However, the 33-year-old insists he is happy to remain with the club to fight for his place.

And he says that rumours of a potential move to the Italian champions are 'far from the truth'.

Giroud told Telefoot : “I was surprised to receive messages from mates talking about the Juventus rumour. It is far from the truth.

“I am a Chelsea player & I feel good here. I did not have a great end of season just to leave without a bit of faith.”

Reports claimed that Pirlo had turned his attention to Giroud after struggling to reach an agreement for Barcelona's Luis Suarez and Roma's Edin Dzeko.

The former Arsenal star came back into the Chelsea fold in February and scored eight goals in 13 games before the season’s end.

And he maintains he is determined to fight for his spot in the first team, depsite the club splashing out close to £250million on new players this summer.

Giroud told Telefoot : “I haven't spoken to Lampard.

“One thing is certain: the competition will pull us all to the top. A great club should have different options in each position.

“We want to be in the race for the title and I'm here. I finished the season well and I proved to the manager that he can count on me.

“Werner is not the same profile as me, I hope to have some playing time.”
