Manchester United youngster Teden Mengi is in line to make his first-team debut in their Europa League last-16 tie against LASK this week.

The Red Devils are 5-0 up in the tie after a dominant display behind closed doors in Austria before the coronavirus pandemic.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will now ring the changes ahead of the second leg in a bid to rest senior stars ahead of the closing stages of the competition in Germany later this month.

And, according to Metro, Mengi is set to make his first appearance a few weeks after being promoted to first-team training.

The central defender, 18, has moved up to Solskjaer’s senior squad since action resumed to help cover injuries and reportedly impressed.

With Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe sidelined, Solskjaer’s only other fit centre-backs are Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, who he could be keen to rest, and Eric Bailly.

Having previously worn 71, Mengi has received the number 43 shirt and could wear that number on Wednesday night.

Mengi has starred for the Under-18s in their run to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals and also impressed for the Under-23s this term.

And he has been tipped to emulate Brandon Williams in making a first-team breakthrough by Under-18s boss Neil Wood.

"Teden has been fantastic," Wood told the Manchester Evening News.”

“He came up to us quite early on in the season and, a bit like Brandon in a sense, he came from the 18s and took his chance. He played really well and he kept his place in the team.

"And when he dropped back down at the end of the season to lead the Youth Cup team, he put in some excellent performances there.

“We'll be looking to work with him next season and he's one [player] we want to 'do a Brandon' with, push him on and the goal is to try and get him pushed up into that first team if we can."
