Atalanta join Leeds United in potential Michy Batshuayi interest — report

Michy Batshuayi of Chelsea celebrates after scoring the first goal of his team during the FA Cup Fourth Round match between Hull City and Chelsea at KCOM Stadium on January 25, 2020 in Hull, England.

Michy Batshuayi has one year left on his Chelsea contract and the Blues have been actively trying to get the 26-year-old fourth-choice striker moved on this summer.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much interest, which isn’t too surprising given Michy’s wages, his lack of consistently good performances, and Chelsea’s asking price north of £20m.

Leeds United have been the only credible interest thus far — thanks to the Marcelo Bielsa connection from Michy’s time at Marseille — but the newly promoted Premier League side would have to make him their club record signing, which seems unlikely.

Perhaps in an effort to try to motivate that deal along, we have incoming rumors from the Daily Mail of everyone’s favorite second team this past season, Atalanta inquiring about a move. In true Serie A style, they are looking for a loan with an option to buy, which is a tricky proposition given Batshuayi’s expiring contract next summer.
