Aaron Ramsdale completes move to Sheffield United

Aaron Ramsdale has completed his transfer back to former club Sheffield United.

The fee is officially undisclosed for the Cherries goalkeeper, but the Daily Echo understands he has returned to south Yorkshire for a deal of around £18.5million, factoring in the 15 per cent sell on clause held by the Blades.

Ramsdale joined Cherries from Sheffield United for an initial £800,000 in January 2017, but only made his debut in August last year, ironically against the Blades.

The young stopper went on to feature in all-but-one of Cherries' top-flight matches last season, sitting in the North Stand with fans for the other whilst nursing a minor injury.

Still only 22, Ramsdale was named Daily Echo/Micky Cave player of the season and also voted Cherries supporters player of the season. He called in to Vitality Stadium earlier this week to collect his trophies before heading up to Sheffield to complete his move on Wednesday.

Cherries say the fee received for Ramsdale is their third highest ever received. Nathan Ake left to join Manchester City for £41million earlier this summer, while the reported fee for Tyrone Mings to join Aston Villa was £26.5million.

The England under-21 international has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at Bramall Lane.

"I'm very fortunate to be able to come back to a place I call home and I'm just excited to get going, see the lads I left behind and meet the new ones now in the team," Ramsdale told the Blades website.

"I'm delighted, it wasn't an easy decision to leave Bournemouth, but when a club comes in for you, shows that faith it has and is willing to pay this sort of money then obviously I've got to do a lot to repay it, but my smile has been ear-to-ear since I walked back through the door."

Boss Chris Wilder added: "The goalkeeping situation is something we have to make sure we get right.

"This is not about Dean (Henderson), it's about bringing Aaron in, but Dean was outstanding for us for two years. We know a lot about Aaron, we've watched him develop on loan at Chesterfield and then AFC Wimbledon and obviously we've watched him this season too.

"I'd like to thank the board for their backing given the situation. Aaron is certainly amongst the best young goalkeepers in this country and we are delighted to have him."
