Liverpool made an approach for Real Madrid youngster Martin Odegaard last summer, according to his former manager.
Odegaard is currently on loan at Real Sociedad. However, the midfielder spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Vitesse.
Odegaard’s manager at Vitesse, Leonid Slutsky, has revealed that Liverpool were looking to sign the Norwegian in July 2019.
“His time at Vitesse has been very important,” Slutsky told Spanish outlet EFE.
“He became one of the best players in the Eredivisie and had many offers in his pocket. Not only from Real Sociedad, but also from Liverpool and Ajax.”
Odegaard has scored seven goals and registered eight assists in all competitions this season for Real Sociedad.
It is interesting to hear a suggestion that Liverpool tried to sign Odegaard last summer, as the club had shown interest in Odegaard in the past. He trained with the Reds back in 2015.
Nothing more eventuated from the training session, as Odegaard joined Real Madrid shortly after. However, he has described Liverpool as his “dream club” in the past.
One could argue that the move to Real Madrid has not worked for the midfielder. He has spent the last three seasons out on loan.
Perhaps this latest report suggests that Liverpool’s interest in the midfielder has not diminished and a move for the youngster in the future could be possible.
