Ben Osborn has no interest in leaving Sheffield United on loan during the transfer window, insisting he is ready to be patient in order to fulfil his dream of becoming an established Premier League player.
The midfielder has yet to start a top-flight match for Chris Wilder’s side, with four of his seven appearances so far coming from the bench.
With a number of Championship clubs understood to be monitoring Osborn’s situation at Bramall Lane - together with Billy Sharp and Luke Freeman, he has been the subject of several loan enquiries - the 25-year-old insisted he is prepared to bide his time following United’s impressive start to the new season.
“My career is still on an upward incline,” Osborn, a summer signing from Nottingham Forest, said. “I’m at a better club and training with better players.
“Now I’ve got to be patient. It’s been a test but hopefully it makes me a better player in the long-run. It will certainly make me more hungry when I do get out there.”
Although manager Chris Wilder has admitted some members of a squad which enters Friday’s game against West Ham ranked eighth will leave South Yorkshire this month, Osborn, Freeman and Sharp, who reportedly interests Celtic, are not among those he is looking to move on in order to make room for new arrivals.
Despite losing to Manchester City and Liverpool ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie against AFC Fylde, United have taken 21 points from their last 14 PL outings.
Osborn, who completed the full 90 minutes of that win over Jim Bentley’s side, said: “Looking at the form of the lads and the results, you can’t complain about not being in there (the starting eleven) can you. It’s not like you can go knocking on the manager’s door and ask why.
“I’ve just got to stick with it, keep training well and make sure that I’m ready when the chance arises. That’s what being a professional is all about.”
