Tottenham continued their revival of form in style as they beat Manchester City in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-final.
Son Heung-min scored the only goal in the second half, but if Mauricio Pochettino’s side are going to reach the last four they will have to do it without their star man Harry Kane.
The striker limped off in agony after a clash with England team-mate Fabian Delph.
As the City left-back cleared the ball on the touchline, he followed through with a strong challenge which saw his studs roll Kane’s ankle.
It’s the second time this season that the 25-year-old has suffered the injury having only returned to the side at the end of February from damage to his ligaments.
Harry Kane was spotted leaving Tottenham’s new ground on crutches, putting a dampener on a special night for a club.
Mauricio Pochettino is fearing the worst, if he is to miss the rest of the season it would be a major blow for the run-in with their top four hopes still hanging in the balance.
"It's a worry for us," said the Argentine.
"We are going to miss him - maybe for the rest of the season.
“We hope it is not a big issue but there is not to much time to recover. He twisted his ankle so we will see how it reacts in a few hours."
Kane will undergo an MRI scan on Wednesday which will give Spurs a clearer indication of the damage.
Pochettino was seen exchanging words with Delph after the challenge, and the Tottenham boss shed light after the match on exactly what was said.
"Fabian was very disappointed with that situation," he told BT Sport.
"He stepped on his ankle. I said to him that he was lucky, because checking on VAR maybe technically it was a red card.
"I've seen the action, both were very strong in the action but both didn't have the intention to make damage to the other.
"That's why I tried to talk to him, he was very upset with the aggressive action. They were both fighting for the ball without the intention to damage each other."
